With this issue,
Cinema Sewer switches to a standard comic book format (but it's not a comic) and it looks pretty slick.
Cinema Sewer – in case you couldn't tell from the title – is a movie zine with a particular emphasis on the obscene and bizarre (although it's not uncommon to find more highbrow efforts covered here as well). This one is an (almost) all-horror issue and the squeamish need not apply. A few of the features: a report on the Cine Muerte film festival, a short interview with local cartoonist/filmmaker Ed Brisson, an indepth article on snuff films and their non-existence, "The Top 5 Made-for-TV Horror Movies", a rundown of Bigfoot flicks and rape-revenge films. There are also plenty of reviews for things like
Terror on Alcatraz (with Aldo Ray),
The Candy Snatchers,
Snuff,
The Texas Dildo Masquerade and many others. Add to that the beautiful full-color cover by Rebecca Dart, the funny back cover and interior illos by Robin Bougie and an entertaining letters column and there's
still an assload of stuff I haven't mentioned. I love this mag and highly recommend it. If you have an aversion to mail order, look for it at Tower Records.

AMAZING ADULT FANTASY Vol. 2

Tim Doyle publishes a monthly
Amazing Adult Fantasy that he gives away around town and then collects every six months worth into one package. It's a lot of reading with 12 panels per page covering Tim's daily life. He writes about work (at a comic shop), his love life, movies he's seeing,
paintings he's working on, gallery showings and lots more. I enjoy it. Some bonus features: a color cover, the covers of the issues collected, a photo of a cool backdrop he painted, a "Hall of Shame" featuring e-mail exchanged with the guy behind
Civilian Justice (sensational post 9/11 "superhero") and pin-ups by José-Luis Olivares and Drew Weing. It's fun stuff and I urge autobio/diary fans to check it out. If you want to start slow, though, send Tim a couple of stamps for the latest monthly issue (up to #16 as I write this).

Picked this up for free in Austin somewhere. Poetry, cut-n-paste nonsensical writing, an apparently-found letter (my favorite bit in the zine), graphics, other experimental writing, etc. Work by Isiadore Lilies, Brockel, Ewe Hausmann and others.
