SECRET MYSTERY LOVE SHOES #1
(Maria Goodman & Androo Robinson / 2000 NE 42 Ave. / PMB 303 / Portland, OR / 97213 USA)
This zine is a collaboration between Maria Goodman and Androo Robinson, both of whom are quite charming within these pages (and without, I would imagine). The best descriptor for
Secret Mystery Love Shoes is probably "fun". If you don't like fun, read no further. Using a mix of words and drawings they explain all about decorating on the cheap (crafty!), the frisbee (its history and a chucklesome rundown of types of throws and catches), stuff bought in Asian markets, "Reviews of Books I Never Read" and stuff stolen (both by and from Androo). There's also a section I like a lot in which they tried to draw famous cartoon characters from memory with funny results (it's harder than it seems). Perhaps my favorite feature in this issue, though, is the center fold-out of paper doll versions of the editors. You get a little nekkid Androo and Maria plus a ton of cool clothes and accessories (belching unicorn t-shirt, tiki mask, banana strap-on, etc.). What a cool idea. Plus, there are more comics by Androo, a hand-printed cover (sponge, maybe?) and more.
