In this issue Matt Dembicki has collected (and translated) the work of several Polish cartoonists as well as a couple of his own pieces. The contributors, whose work you may or may not have seen in
Stripburger, are Marek Turek, Rafal Gosieniecki, Mariuz Zawadzki and Krzysztof Kaluszka. In fact, if you're familiar with the general aesthetics of
Stripburger you'll know what to expect here. The stand-out work for me: Gosieniecki's striking front cover, Dembicki's adaptation of a Polish rhyme (using bold brushstrokes that appeal) and everything by the duo of Zawadzki and Kaluszka (funny stuff, especially the several strips about a no-nonsense, tough-guy bus driver). Cheers to Mr. Dembicki for bringing more overseas work to US readers; I wish there was a greater trend to do so.
