Many of you will remember Jeff LeVine's 1990s work such as his
No Hope comic and
Destroy All Comics, a magazine about same. LeVine has been laying somewhat low for a few years, but certainly hasn't quit drawing. This new volume from Sparkplug collects 40 pages of autobiographical comics about working and living in the city. Many of these strips aren't conventional, straight comics; rather, they read more like poetry. Or diary entries. Or mini psychological profiles – brief reports on what was happening in his head at the moment. The artwork is expressive and there are a few really effective inkwash pages. One of my favorite strips features scenery from the author's daily walk to work; this one should appeal to those who enjoy Jeff Zenick's drawings. LeVine's work here is personal, sometimes funny, sometimes depressing and certainly worth reading. To get a better idea of what to expect from this book, check out the archives at his
