I liked this a lot. The concept takes a little explaining: The newly dead of New York City are picked up by the spectral drivers of the Styx Taxi company. Instead of taking them to the afterlife, as the name implies, the Taxi service offers two hours on the earthly plane to take care of unfinished business. For some, it’s a chance to say goodbye; others seek revenge; one little boy only wants to see elephants. Their choices are interwoven with the stories of the cabbies themselves, Circe, Dom and Charon. Writer Steven Goldman and artist Jeremy Arambulo bring these characters and their world brilliantly to life (so to speak). Those who pick up the title expecting a dark, goth-style story are apt to be disappointed; everyone else will be rewarded with a warm, thoughtful tale about life, death and the choices we make. If this were the mainstream press, I’d call Goldman and Arambulo “talents to watch.” But why not see what they’re doing
now?
