PICK YOUR POISON #3
($2.00 from Nate Gangelhoff / PO Box 8995 / Minneapolis, MN / 55408 USA. Web:

This is a collection of personal writing by Nate Gangelhoff, who also writes the zine
You Idiot (reviewed here recently). While struggling through a bit of writer's block, Nate decided to try a little exercise that involved picking words out of the dictionary to serve as story titles and inspiration. Many of the stories in this issue came out of that session and, unless I'm mistaken, all of the stories here are from Nate's life (many from childhood). After 60 pages of personal stories, you're going to have a pretty good idea of the sort of rabblerousing this guy's engaged in. Lots of drinking, drugs, experimentation, vandalism and general hooliganism. But there's also lots of humor and a recurring desire to establish oneself as someone who's made a difference. Nate wonders about the unknown lives of strangers and if he'll be worth wondering about when he's gone. In between the extremes of careless rapscallion and thoughtful philosopher you'll find writing about jobs, the "exhaust-wheezing train wreck of a vehicle" that he drove in high school, playing in bands and dreams. Lots of reading here for two bucks.
