And I was just waxing nostalgic about the ould zine days, when every two weeks a new feminist anti-media zine would turn up in the mailbox, full of outrage and indignant collages and '50s housewife clipart deployed ironically and all that.
Media Whore is like that, though less scruffy than its ancestors – no handwritten text, no funky fonts, no poetry – articles and sidebars are neatly designed, and there's only one collage of images from fashion magazines. The writing, by Randie and others, is well-informed and opinionated, and the topics are interesting (
Bitch magazine's recent financial difficulties; the repetitious spate of TV characters who get pregnant, contemplate abortions, but have miscarriages instead; the "Suicide Girls" website). A fine zine, worth your attention.
